Course Prerequisites
- CPSC-Candidates must be at least 18 years old
- CPSC-Candidates must have received approved or recognised training in Personal Survival Techniques within the preceding 5 years
- CPSC-Candidates must have performed at least 6 months sea-service and have successfully completed a Department approved or recognised training programme meeting the standards laid down in STCW Code A-VI/2-1.
- CPSC-We stongly recommend that candicates obtain a medical fitness certificate

Full Description:
The Survival Craft training will prepare candidates involved in taking charge of the launching or handling of survival craft to achieve an appropriate level of competence and confidence in these operations.
Much of the course is practical in nature and candidates will benefit from being able to gain practical experience of operating a variety of open and totally enclosed lifeboats and inflatable rescue boats from different davit systems on the Centre's well-equipped pier head facility.
As well as dealing with the main features of different types of survival craft and their launching appliances, the course emphasizes the need for safe operating procedures.
- Emergency situations
- Taking charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during or after launch
- Principles of survival
- Survivor and survival craft management after abandoning ship
- First aid application to survivors
- Radio equipment
- Signalling for rescue
- Operation of a survival craft engine and rowing practice
- Use of locating devices including communication and signalling apparatus
Items to bring:
When joining this course please ensure you bring the following items with you:
Swim wear, wash gear and towel, Wet weather gear/PPE, hard boots/shoes, warm clothes, change of clothes, €1 coin for safety locker
Please note: Students should be in possession of a valid Medical Certificate if their health is in doubt. All students will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire before the course commences.
N.B.-On the commencement day of the course, please be in the Reception area of the NMCI by 8.30am.
