Full Description:

Course Aim:

This course is designed to meet the formal training needs of experienced terminal operations personnel as required by the BLU Code (Safe Loading and Unloading of Bulk Cargoes), and will address any of the learner’s knowledge gaps.

Background:

SI No. 347 of 2003 - European Communities (Safe Loading and Unloading of Bulk Carriers) Regulations 2003. gives effect to international legislation aimed at reducing the number of bulk carriers losses at sea. The legislation applies to all port facilities handling such ships and cargoes, with a few limited exceptions.

Course Objectives:

1. To enable persons responsible for the safe loading or unloading of bulk carriers underpin their practical experience by improving their knowledge of the BLU Code, their skills base and competence.
2. To give experienced port supervisors and other shipping and port industry personnel training in the role of the terminal representative.

Training Outcome:

The delegates will receive sufficient knowledge and training to allow them to plan and carry out the safe loading/unloading of a bulk carrier in accordance with the BLU Code, commensurate with their level of past experience.
