Course Prerequisites
- Be not less than 18 years of age.
- Have completed the four basic courses covering familiarisation and basic safety training and instruction in accordance with STCW Regulation VI/1 para 2 within the previous 5 years.
- All learners will need to provide photographic proof of identity at the commencement of the course
- Hold a Certificate of Proficiency as Navigational Watch Rating or, hold a Certificate of Competency as Second Hand Full or Skipper Limited/Full issued by the Irish Maritime Administration

Short Description:

Full Description:
This course provides structured training for seafarers seeking their initial Certificate of Proficiency as an Able Seafarer Deck, in line with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), Regulation II/5, Table A-II/5.
It delivers the knowledge, understanding, and practical competence required to perform watchkeeping, seamanship, cargo handling, pollution-prevention, deck maintenance, and safety duties at the support level aboard seagoing ships of 500 GT or more.
Training is delivered over 35.5 hours through lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises at the National Maritime College of Ireland facilities, including the Sea bay practical training area.
Assessment includes oral and practical examinations conducted independently from instructional staff.
